Uwheru Community Crisis: Massive protest hit community

...as Ughelli North Local Government Boss forcefully reinstate expelled President General

By Gradeone Henry

The Uwheru Community in Ughelli North Local Government area of Delta State is currently experiencing unrest as children, youths and elders storm out enmass to protest against the unlawful reinstatement of the expelled community President General (PG), Chief MacPherson Igbide.

The Ughelli North Local Government boss, Hon. Jaro Egbo, who recently reinstated the expelled community President General against the will of the King, chiefs and entire community is seen as unlawful, misguided, oppression and conspiracies culpable of disrupting the peace and progress that is being experience in the community since his expulsion.

According to one of protesters (name withheld) “the expelled President General and his group were expelled due to gross misconduct, corruption, financial mismanagement, embezzlement of community funds, collection of money from fulani herdsmen/bandits terrorists that led to death of several persons with about six persons recently maimed by the terrorists and causing mayhem/chaos within the community.

Our highly reverend king called a meeting of chiefs, elders, women wings and youth; a seven men committee led by Mr. Jonathan Efiewore was set up to investigate the issue. Upon investigation, Chief MacPherson Igbide was invited to defend himself of the allegations but deliberately refused to show up.

After several attempt of reaching him prove unsuccessful, he was suspended for three months.

The investigation committee after due process came up with the findings that all allegations were true and then recommended his removal as the PG of Uwheru Kingdom.

Protesters in Uwheru over imposition of expelled President General

Sequel to the outcome of the investigation, the king, chiefs, elders, women wings and youth unanimous agreed that Chief MacPherson Igbedi be removed (expelled) as PG of Uwheru Kingdom.

Consequently, Mr. Wilson Oghenebrukevwe who was the vice president general was sworn in as the substantiative PG which brought relative peace since then.

Lately, the Ughelli North Local Government boss, Hon. Jaro Egbo invited the king, substantiative PG, Mr. Wilson Oghenebrukevwe and youth president to attend a security meeting in Ughelli.

The meeting witnessed the presence of traditional leaders, security personnel and other stakeholders but nothing about security was discussed.

It was surprising that in that meeting no security issue was discussed but the Ughelli North boss said he was seriously under pressure by some power brokers that the expelled PG should meet with the king and his cabinet to refund about N3.5 million from some of the monies embezzled and be reinstated on the order of the local government chairman.

It should be recalled that the embattled PG was expelled (removed) by a unanimous agreement by the king, chiefs, elders women wings, youths and the entire Uwheru Kingdom hence any imposition of the expelled PG on the Uwheru people by the Ughelli North council boss is unacceptable.

If the Ughelli North Local Government chairman thinks he can use his office to openly cover the truth base on his allies by reinstating the expelled PG against the good will of the Uwheru people despite all proves and evidence of his misconduct then let him be ready to kill as many people in community with this broad daylight jungle justice.

We as a community will resist this evil gang up against our wellbeing and peace with the very last blood in our veins.

I must state here without fear or favour, let this stand as a warning to the Ughelli boss that for belittling our reverend king and the Uwheru Kingdom has made himself an enemy of the community.

He shouldn’t think of visiting Uwheru whether for campaign or anything as his presence is not welcome and would be resisted anyway.

This a clarion call on the Delta State government as a matter of urgency to intervene in this matter to avert bloodshed, destruction of lives and properties in the community.”
