The President General of Uwheru kingdom, Chief MacPherson Igbedi has been suspended indefinitely by the Ughelli North Local Government Council Olorogun Jaro Egbo over his alleged inability to curtail an uprising tension and allegations from youths in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The suspension memo with ref: UNLG/CHAIR/SEC/0725/09 signed by the Council Chairman, Chief MacPherson Igbedi was accused of his inability to demonstrate transparency over the ongoing bridge construction in the community.
According to the memo “Following the recent security challenges and heightened tension within Uwheru Kingdom, alongside growing allegations from the youths regarding your inability to demonstrate transparency, fairness, and inclusiveness in the allocation of job slots on the ongoing rehabilitation work at the Orhivbirhi Bridge, being handled by Setraco Nigeria Limited.
“The leadership of Ughelli North Local Government Area, has found it necessary to take decisive action in the interest of peace, unity, and development.
“After careful consideration, consultations with relevant stakeholders, and by the responsibilities vested in the office of the Local Government Chairman to ensure peace, order, and good governance within the Local Government, you are hereby suspended from your position as President General of Uwheru Kingdom with immediate effect.
“This suspension is intended to restore confidence, address the prevailing unrest, and allow for a thorough assessment of the allegations and your overall handling of community affairs.
“You are expected to hand over all responsibilities, documents, and property related to your office to the most senior officer of the Uwheru Kingdom leadership structure pending further directives.
“Be assured that this decision, though difficult, is aimed solely at safeguarding the collective interest of the Uwheru people and ensuring that all opportunities, especially those connected to developmental projects like the Orhivbirhi Bridge rehabilitation, are handled transparently, fairly, and in a manner that promotes peace and unity.
“The Ughelli North Local Government Council remains committed to working with all stakeholders to resolve these issues and restore lasting peace in Uwheru Kingdom.Please be guided accordingly.”
In the memo, the Honourable Commissioner of Women Affairs Social and Community Development, the Manager Heritage Energy Services, the Manager Setraco Nigeria Limited, the Area Commander, Ughelli Area Command, DPO Ughellli Police Division and HRM Odion R’Ode of Ughelli Kingdom were copied.
