A female traditional Chief, has been arrested by the Ughelli North Council Chairman for allegedly buying the stolen cement meant for the construction of Cottage Health Center and others ongoing projects in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The suspect identified of Chief Rose Akamu as arrested at her shop opposite the Ughelli Area Command after an intelligence report.
It would be recalled that over 450 bags of cement and rods were declared missing and one Mr Iborogu Samson was arrested in connection with the missing items and he is currently being held at the Ughelli Area Command for investigation.
A source from the council who spoke on anonymous condition disclosed that the traditional Chief has gone undercover after she was allegedly confessed to be the prime buyer of the missing items.
“Before her eventual arrest, over 50 bags of cement were traced to her and were recovered with over 200 moulded blocks that are currently at the Ughelli Area Command.
“On the day of her arrest, she was allegedly seen at the office of the DPO of Ughelli ‘A’ division mounting pressure on the police to resolve the issue in a round table and probably the assurance given to her made her to go to her catering shop directly behind the Children Cottage Health Center.
“Immediately after her arrest, the Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo brought down her catering shop at the government land opposite the Ughelli Area Command.
Confirming the arrest, another source disclosed that,she would be arraigned immediately.
“We are aware that she is related to a very prominent politician in Ughelli South Local Government Area and a Chief, some traditional Chiefs are wanting to settle the matter.
“But be rest assured that the council chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo would not succumb to pressure of releasing her as he is prepared to use the incident to serve as deterrent to others.”
Further investigation by our reporter revealed that Mr Iborogu Samson, who is related to the family of a very popular hotelier within Ughelli that was earlier arrested has agreed to pay for 200 bags of cement in other to be released.
The investigations revealed that the stolen cement were been sold for N5,000 to the suspected buyer.
As at the time of this report, it could not be ascertained whether the suspect has paid for the 200 bags he agreed to pay.
However, it was learned that the Chief was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ughelli and she was granted bail as the case was adjourned.
