A bakery owner and over 78 others were arraigned before a mobile court sitting at Post office presided by Magistrate Rita Efiuvwere for violating sanitation laws during the ‘Special Environmental Sanitation’ exercise in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta.
The Ughelli North Local Government Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo declared Thursday a Special Environmental Sanitation and all stores and shops both public and private were shut from 6-10:am.
At Post office roundabout, over 78 ‘Special Environmental Sanitation’ defaulters were arraigned and fine accordingly according to their various offence.
It would be recalled that Olorogun Jaro Egbo at the previous monthly environmental sanitation exercise expressed dissatisfaction over the poor attitude of Ughelli North residents in keeping their environment clean.
As a result, he declared Thursday, October 30, a special sanitation exercise within Ughelli metropolis.
According to a Judiciary official who spoke on anonymous condition,”Over 78 defaulters were arrested and arraigned before Magistrate Rita Efiuvwere and those that could explain their selves were fine accordingly.
Among those fine was a Bakery along Isoko road that was sealed by the council chairman and after much pleading, he was fine by the court accordingly.
“Trucks belonging to organizations were taken away a they could not define their movement.
“However, many other regulars were made to sit down pending when the sanitation expires as they could not pay for their fine.” The source revealed.
