41st Anniversary: PCRC Ughelli Area Command Holds Town Hall Security Meeting

The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, Ughelli Area Command, has concluded its 41yrs anniversary with town hall security meeting with stakeholders, community leaders and other sister agencies in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
At a Town Hall Security Meeting held at Afiesere community with the theme, ‘War against cultism, Drug abuse and other vices, top academia speak on the role and responsibilities of parents community leaders, Government, security agencies and religious leaders.

Speaking on the role and responsibilities of parents, community leaders and government, the Rector of Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu, Prof James Okoro held that social vices has fast become a national and global trends as it cut across ethnic nationalities, races, and the religious leverages.
According to him, “Social vices represents evil, wicked actions, unhealthy and negative practices and conduct which conflicts with the accepted norms, morals and values of a community at large
“It is a social problems because their negative impact on individuals, groups and the community because they affect significant number of the population in adverse manners.
Prof Okoro related some social vices and cultism to broken homes, domestic violence, Human trafficking, gambling, cybercrimes, violence against women, teenage pregnancy, and amongst others.
In finding solutions, he said,  “Parents should cultivate the habit of raising their wards with discipline and commitment to self contentment.

He said, “The role of parents, community leaders and government in curbing social vices in our society is a necessity that can promote peace, harmony,good health and joy among the youths.
“The involvement of parents , community leaders and government cannot be underrated by engaging them in meaningful activities through skills acquisition.”
On drug abuse, the officer in charge of Drug Demand Reduction from Ughelli Area Command of Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mr Paul Okoh held that the effect of drug abuse would certainly lead to memory loss, anxiety, sleeplessness, depression and sudden death
He appealed to the parents to be involved in their activities,by engaging them positively while the community and the government should provide support, counseling and rehabilitation services for individuals struggling with drug abuse.
Earlier in his address, chairman of PCRC, Ughelli Area Command, Comr Blessing Egbagbara said, “The Town Hall Security Meeting is to build cooperative bridges between the community and the authorities of the Nigeria Police so the we can partner together in other to prevent crime.
“The theme of this gathering is very apt as there are some social major challenges we are having across the federation currently and by engaging the youths and communities is the primary to fight against cultism, drug abuse kidnapping and other vices.”
