Guterres hails U.N. Human Rights Council after U.S. exit

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has hailed what he termed the “very important role” of the Human Rights Council, following U.S. withdrawal, citing alleged bias against Israel.  Guterres said  he would have “much preferred” the U.S. remain. An FCT High Court, Maitama, on yesterday adjourned till July 19, a case of alleged injurious falsehood preferred against Senator Isah Misau, to enable counsel to address the court on a subpoena issue. Thailand has carried out its first execution since 2009, putting a 26-year-old convicted murderer to death by lethal injection in a move condemned by Amnesty International as “deplorable”.
