Crisis In Olota, Alagbabri Communities Over Alleged Oil Largess In Delta

Several persons have been injured in clash between Olota and Alagbabri communities over an alleged sharing formula from oil proceeds in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State.
Though, the cause of the crisis could not be ascertained as at the time of the report, it was gathered that both communities were at loggerheads over an alleged sharing formula of an oil proceeds that was paid to the communities by an oil company operating in the area.
According to sources from one of the communities, “We were chased out of our home at about 12:am  yesterday, (Monday) by our assailants without any iota of provocation.
“The other community wanted to take a larger share of the money that was paid to us as pipeline communities. Pipelines passed both communities and if cash is paid, it should be 50/50 and nothing more as that would not required blood share.” The sources alleged.
When contacted the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer,  DSP Edafe Bright said, “There is no problem in Ughelli South, because I have been talking with the DPO form that area and there is no crisis there but if I hear anything, I will let you know.”
However, a security source from the area, who confirmed the incident said, “There is an old pipeline that traverse that place that was operated by Shell before. But now one of the communities was excavating those pipeline and they crossed to the boundary of the the other community.
“And the other community now confronted them they should not temper the pipelines in their community and that brought the crisis. But  the military have been drafted there to restore normalcy.”
As at the time of this report, it was learnt that the leadership of both communities were holding security meeting with the military in Bomadi local government.
