Adagwe Grammar School Were Students Stand, Sit On Bare Floor To Learn

Learning under condusive atmosphere has eluded students of Adagwe Grammar School, Eremukowharien, in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State as they all sit on a bare floor to receive lessons, tutorials during classes.
The once known Adagwe Grammar has become a citadel of misery, mockery and laughter as the Delta State Government under the Ministry of Post Primary Education has failed to provide learning materials and a condusive environment to the students.
Students of institution have expressed disappointment over the inability of the local and state governments to provide desks for them to learn.
A 12 years old JSS 1 student of Adagwe Grammar School, Amrore Faith who expressed her anger said, “The Delta State Government is not trying at all, we need chairs in our school, our ceilings are not good, we don’t have Boards to write on, we don’t have chairs to sit down to learn we are pleading with the government to bring chairs.”
Also an SS 2 Okeoghene Thompson said, “While we were in JSS 1, we have chairs but as we moved into the Senior classes, we did not see any chairs.
“We receive our tutorials while standing or sitting by the windows”.
The Senior Perfect of Adagwe Grammar School, Atumrigho Matthew on his part said, “Since we have no chairs in our classes, we have to move to the empty laboratory and call in teachers to teach.
“There is no time because our exams are approaching. Students find it difficult to cope with their studies because right from SS 1 till now, we have not been taught a single practicals.
I am appealing to the state government and the commissioner for education to please come to our help by providing us chair and enabling learning environment.
The Principal and staff of Adagwe Grammar refused speaking to journalists.
Lamenting the ordeal of the students,  the PTA chairman, Prince Felix Ogbobore said “The oil rich community has written several letters  to the local and state governments all to no avail.

According to him, “There was a time a when PTA meeting was called at the instance of the immediate past principal, Mrs. Onome Polokor and in that meeting it was resolved that every parent should pay the sum of N2,500 in other construct desks but the principal refused by saying that that she would write to inform the state government of the development.
“After some time, the principal told the parents that the state government has turned down the proposal of the N 2,500 levy, saying it is illegal to levy parents.
“She told us that the government will do the needful by supplying desks to the school, but for the past five years now, nothing has been done and we have not heard from the government and that principal has left the school now.
Speaking further, Ogbobore said, “It is pathetic to know that Eruemukowharien is a foremost oil producing community in Ughelli North LGA that play host to OML30 & 34 and a Tank Farm code named ‘Ughelli Quality Control Center ‘, UQCC now know as Ughelli Pumping Station, UPS owned by ND Western and Shoreline.
“It receives crude from OML 26, 30, 34 and clean up the OML 65 and despite all these, the government has turned a deaf ear to our plea despite the series of letters that we have written.” Prince states
