The Ovie of Ughelli kingdom, HRM, Evang. Dr. Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III (JP), has charged the newly installed Spokesperson (Otota) of Ughelli, Chief Peter Tobore Akpofure to the position to attract development to the kingdom and Delta state.
He gave this charge on the occasion of Chief Peter Akpofure installation as the Otota of the Kingdom in his palace, Ughelli, Delta state last Saturday.
According to the monarch, “We don’t want to be gambling with our culture and tradition and there is the need for us to be one and not to be politicized”.
Speaking further, the royal father said, the position of the Otota belong to Iyasere of the Kingdom and after due consultations, it was agreed that the position should be conferred on you the Chief Peter Tobore Akpofure .
He advised him to endeavor to uphold the culture and tradition of the Ughelli people which according to him are the significance of the Kingdom, adding that he should strive to bring in more development to the people.
On his part, the Otota of Ughelli kingdom, Chief Peter Akpofure said, “It is so joyful to me, this is something that I have been expecting all my life and it is a dream come true for me
“The position of Otota is a very prime position in Ughelli kingdom and with my various interactions with the king and kingmakers, we need to raise the position of Ughelli kingdom among the communities in Nigeria.
“If you don’t know, Ughelli was one of the provincial headquarters in the years past and all other such provincial headquarters, like Asaba, Benin and others have advanced more than Ughelli.
“Shell as an oil company started from here and non of its establishments are in Ughelli unlike what we have in Benin, and the gas section of the oil industries that are in Bayelsa state that was created just of recent.
“We need people who can speak up, present the kingdom before governors, presidents and institutions without considering his personal interest, so that Ughelli can be well located in the affairs of things”. Akpofure said.
