CMD advises on early treatment of infection

Dr. Omoye Osawende, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of a private hospital in Benin,  has advised Nigerians against leaving infections untreated as it could lead to greater complications. Osawende gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Saturday. She defined infection as “a disease caused by microorganisms that invade tissue” adding that many infections can be prevented by vaccines, frequent and thorough hand-washing. A flood of tributes poured Friday night as the news of the death of Nigeria’s Second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Usman Shagari spread after the announcement by his grandchildren and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto. Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari GCFR, (born February 25, 1925 – December 28, 2018) served as the first and only President of Nigeria’s Second Republic (1979–1983), after the handover of power by General Olusegun Obasanjo’s military government. Shagari also served seven times in a ministerial or cabinet post as a federal minister and federal commissioner from 1958–1975. Shagari was made the Turaki of the FulaSokoto Caliphate in 1962 by the Sultan of Sokoto Siddiq Abubakar III.
