London Grenfell Tower blaze killed 70 – Police

Seventy people died when a ferocious fire ripped through their London apartment block in June, British police concluded Thursday after a probe which “pushed the boundaries” of scientific investigation. The devastating blaze spread rapidly through Grenfell Tower on June 14, with 293 people inside as the only escape route became filled with smoke. JAMB fixes dates for 2018 examination

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said on Wednesday morning that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in 2018 would hold on March 9 to March 17, 2018. The JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, announced this during an ongoing stakeholders’ meeting, saying that the dates were chosen “taking into cognizance the dates of other public examinations.” The board said the mock examination would hold between January 22 and 27, adding that the application fee remained N5000.

Nigeria infant mortality rate falls – survey

The fifth Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) has highlighted a nationwide overall drop in infant mortality rate from 97 per 1000 live births recorded in 2011 to 70 per 1000 live births. The survey was jointly released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Tuesday, in Abuja.
